Aloha to our stakeholders in Hawaii!
Tomorrow, February 4, the Hawai’i State Legislature will hear testimony on Senate Bill 1291. If passed, Arcimoto drivers will no longer be required to have a motorcycle endorsement to operate the FUV. Instead, a standard type 3 drivers license–or the out-of-state equivalent–will be all that’s needed.
For the FUV and other stable-platform, three-wheel vehicles, passing SB 1291 makes perfect sense. It modernizes legacy legislation written with two-wheel motorcycles in mind. To operate those bikes, riders need special skills and training, and must learn to balance and lean. Conversely, the FUV is stable by design, with simple controls that can be easily learned on your first drive.
Without the need for a motorcycle endorsement, thousands more tourists in Hawai’i would have access to new fleets of FUV rentals, which would provide zero-emission alternatives to the thousands of gas-powered, CO2-emitting mopeds, scooters, and two-wheel motorcycles that tourists in the Islands rent every day. Electrifying these rentals would make a meaningful impact on air quality and carbon emissions.
This morning, we’ve emailed each of our preorder customers in Hawaii to ask for your help. If you have a few minutes and want to voice your support, please email your Hawai’i senator today and tell them why SB1291 matters to you. The hearing is tomorrow, and your voice counts.
