Electric Vehicle Tax Credits (Federal and State!)

The Arcimoto Pulse

Arcimoto is tirelessly working with State and Federal governments to ensure that Electric Vehicle tax credits adequately address your needs. Many states are currently offering incentives for adoption of alternative fuel vehicles. Tax credits vary by state and vehicle type, but we have identified several tax credits in each state that the Arcimoto Pulse will be eligible for.

Federal

Electric Vehicle Tax Credit
An individual or business can claim a tax credit of 10% of the cost of an electric vehicle up to $2,500. The credit can be claimed on IRS Form 8834. This credit only applies to vehicles that can be plugged into an external power source. Hybrid Electric Vehicles that do not have a plug in option are not eligible for this credit.

Oregon

Consumers:
Residential Energy Tax Credit (RETC) for Alternative Fuel Vehicles: Up to $1,500 state tax credit for alternative fuel vehicles. We will work with the State of Oregon to make the process as easy as possible for you. More information about the Alternate Fuel Vehicle tax credit is available on the Oregon website.

Businesses:
Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC): The BETC is a 35% tax credit available to businesses for making energy efficiency improvements to their operations. Electric vehicles are one qualifying component of the BETC. We will work with the State of Oregon to make the process as easy as possible for you. You must apply for the BETC before placing your deposit with us.

In 2009, the Oregon Legislature passed House Bill 2182 which allowed the inclusion of electric vehicles into a low interest loan program for small businesses. Arcimoto will work with your business and the Department of Energy Loan Program to help you get approved and take advantage of other cost savings programs. A loan calculator can be found on the state of Oregon website. The new loan program will go into law on January 1, 2010.

As the loan program and the BETC are administered through the same department, Arcimoto can work with the Department of Energy to create a package that will fit the needs of most business customers.

California
California has been the state that has tried the greatest number of different approaches to encourage adoption and use of electric vehicles. Depending on where you are in California, different programs may help make the economic equation of purchasing an electric vehicle more appealing. Most of the incentives are focused on parking, however there are some others that may make your commute all the more enjoyable.

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Use
Under CA law, electric vehicles are allowed to use HOV lanes regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.

San Joaquin Valley
The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District administers a program called REMOVE II. This program provides a $1,000 to $3,000 incentive for the purchase of low emission, or alternative fuel vehicles (including electric), based on the size of the vehicle and the emissions certificate. This type of program is very successful in encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles.

LAX Airport
Free parking and charging of electric vehicles.

City of Santa Monica

City of Sacramento

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)

Aw, my state doesn't have a credit. That's too bad. I was expecting California to have one though. And Oregon and Washington aren't surprising, either. Well at least I can take advantage of the federal tax credit!
